Ottawa Bluesfest Volunteer Policy: Reinstatement Process for Blocked Volunteers
At Ottawa Bluesfest, we value the dedication and commitment of our volunteers. We strive to maintain a positive and inclusive environment for all participants. To ensure this, we have established guidelines and a code of conduct that every volunteer must adhere to. Occasionally, volunteers may be blocked from participating due to violations of these guidelines. This policy outlines the steps blocked volunteers can take to address their situation and potentially reinstate their volunteer status.
These documents are made available to all volunteers at the time of registration and are available on our website at the top of this page.
Reasons for Blocking
Volunteers may be blocked from Ottawa Bluesfest for behaviors that violate the Volunteer Handbook and Code of Conduct. Such behaviors include, but are not limited to:
– Harassment or discrimination of any kind
– Use of offensive or inappropriate language
– Theft or damage to property
– Unauthorized consumption of alcohol or drugs while on duty
– Failure to follow festival policies and procedures
– Disrespectful behavior towards festival staff, other volunteers, performers, or attendees
– Neglect of assigned duties or responsibilities
Steps for Reinstatement
If you have been blocked from volunteering at Ottawa Bluesfest, you may request a review of your situation. Follow these steps to initiate the process:
Review the Incident: Reflect on the actions or behaviors that led to your being blocked. Refer to the Volunteer Handbook and Code of Conduct to understand the specific violations.

– A clear and concise account of the events leading to your blocking
– An acknowledgment of any mistakes made and how you plan to address them

– Steps you have taken or plan to take to ensure similar incidents do not occur in the future
Submit Your Statement: Send your written statement to the Volunteer Services department at volunteers@ottawabluesfest.ca. Use the subject line “Request for Reinstatement Review“.
Review Process: Upon receipt of your statement, the Volunteer Coordination Team will review your case. This may involve:
– Conducting interviews with relevant parties
– Reviewing any available evidence or documentation
– Consulting with festival management
Decision Notification: You will be notified of the decision within 30 days of submitting your request. The decision may include:
– Reinstatement with conditions (e.g., probationary period, additional training)
– Permanent blocking if the violations are deemed severe or irreparable
Ottawa Bluesfest is committed to fair and transparent processes for all volunteers. We encourage open communication and aim to resolve issues in a constructive manner. By following this policy, blocked volunteers have the opportunity to address their situation and work towards reinstatement, ensuring a positive experience for all involved in the festival.
