The Volunteer Team Behind Bluesfest

We have began accepting applications, as of May 18th 2022 at noon!

We are as excited as you to start welcoming new volunteers for this years festival!

Let the weather be the only surprise this summer! ☀️💨🌦 Please carefully read each job description that interests you to see the job expectations and requirements.

Since 2019, we’ve been working on updating our volunteer program to make certain that we’re offering the best support and onsite experience to all of our volunteers; this included re-organizing some of our teams to ensure we were using our resources as effectively as possible. In order to help with this goal, each volunteer area has been grouped under one of the eight new volunteer departments listed below: Beverage Services, Customer Care, Festival Operations, Fundraising, Production, VIP, Volunteer Support, and Youth Opportunities.

Specialized recruitment is now open for privately-recruited teams who are looking for new volunteers!

Teams that are currently looking for new volunteers include A-Team, Box Office, Tablet Support Team, Road Warriors,
Poster Gallery, Backstage Services (Accreditation and Hospitality), Stage Crew, Photo Team, and Volunteer Check-In. Review our team descriptions below and follow the instructions to submit applications to the teams of your choice!

BEVERAGE SERVICES (18+)

If you think that nothing beats the combination of crisp, cold beverages and live music, join our Beverage Services team to meet other enthusiastic volunteers who share that passion!

This department is responsible for taking, processing and delivering drink orders in a timely manner to our parched patrons. With multiple locations and countless beverage options throughout the festival site, every shift is a new experience!

Beer Tents

Are you quick on your feet and like staying on your toes? Do you work well with others and excel at two-way communication with a variety of other team members? If you answered ‘YES!’ to all of these questions, join our Beer Tents team where you’ll sign up to sling suds and other cool refreshments for our thirsty patrons.

Beverage Cashiers

Do you have Smart Serve AND a finely-tuned set of observation skills? Can you find the line between firm and fair? Then we’ve got a place for you on the Cashiers team, where you’ll ensure our festival-goers get their ice cold beverages in an orderly manner!

Are you a problem-solver who is amped to be on the frontlines at the festival? Are you all about making people’s experiences as smooth as possible? If so, join our Customer Care team and support festival-goers by assisting them with their questions and special requests, and providing them with the directions they need to fully enjoy the festival and all its amenities!

A-Team (Accessibility)*

Are you someone who lives to make sure everyone has the same exceptional festival experience, regardless of disability or limitation? If so, consider joining our specialized A-Team and provide support to any volunteer or patron who needs a little extra assistance navigating our festival grounds.

FESTIVAL OPERATIONS (18+)

Seeing nearly 30,000 people a day means that RBC Bluesfest is among Ottawa’s biggest and most anticipated summer festivals! Because the festival is such a huge operation that requires a lot of collaboration and teamwork, our Festival Operations department is an essential team in keeping the festival running smoothly.

If you’re ready to be part of the festival’s backbone and do some heavy lifting, both literally and figuratively, come join the department that all other departments depend on: Festival Operations!

Green Team

Are you a committed team player who can work with minimal supervision? Do you have a zeal for the environment and know the value of making a difference in your community? If so, Green Team & Envirodish would love to see you in the field!

Our intrepid Greenies work throughout the site, keeping the festival clean and green, while our Dishies add a little sparkle to the site by making our Hospitality operations sustainable.

Inventory Control & Signage

Are you constantly praised for being efficient, punctual and willing to move all around the festival? If you are 18 years of age or older consider joining our team and help keep the festival running in tip-top shape by managing and delivering supplies to areas in need.

Tablet Support Team*(FORMERLY it team)

Are you someone who knows their way around technology and who enjoys building and troubleshooting networks? Are you savvy with finicky tablets and ready to jump in and support our Beverage Services and Customer Care teams with some ?

If so, join our experienced team of professionals and help the team set up, maintain, and take down various I.T.-related equipment around the site and keep our digital systems up-and-running.

FUNDRAISING (18+)

We do good things, you’ve probably heard this before and it’s because it’s true! Our own charity, Blues in the Schools, offers the opportunity for students of all ages to engage in multidisciplinary, whole-language learning using the study of music, math, language arts, history, anthropology, and sociology in a hands-on approach celebrating creative self-expression. By bringing the Blues genre into the classroom, students are exposed to these traditional subjects, while breaking down racial barriers and opening dialogue about cultural diversity. If you are someone social, interested in the cause and wanting to get a hand at marketing this is your department!

Fundraising Ambassadors (FORMERLY 50/50 RAFFLE AND BEAD TENT)

Are you socially-conscious and excited to work with other team members towards a common goal? Do you have a strong sense of community and a passion for raising money for a good cause? Sounds like you’d do well with our Fundraising Kiosks!


These volunteers sell 50/50 raffle tickets, limited edition Mardi Gras beads, and unsigned commemorative festival posters, plus spread the news about our incredible music education programs!

Poster Gallery*

Are you someone amped to see and collect limited edition memorabilia? Are you excited to engage patrons in bidding wars for once in a lifetime experiences? If so, consider joining our Poster Gallery team in displaying and selling autographed memorabilia and collectable posters that support the RBC Bluesfest Charity, Blues in the Schools! This team also conducts our Silent and, at times, Live Auction for our Best Seats in the House fundraising initiative—a chance to sit stage-side during a headlining performance!

PRODUCTION (18+/25+)

Ever wanted to see the artist-side of the festival experience but haven’t totally figured out your perfect note to perform? While you’re deciding, consider getting a new perspective by joining our experienced and professional backstage Production team!

Our Production team is responsible for assisting with backstage needs, including set-up, fulfilling artists requests, transporting artists to and from the venue, and otherwise creating the most perfect and welcoming ambience for performers and their crews.

Please note: All areas have a minimum age requirement of 18, except for Transportation which is 25+

Backstage Services*

This team is responsible for creating a fun and relaxed environment for festival-goers looking to grab some downtime between shows.

Bluesfest Youth volunteers are an awesome bunch of motivated individuals that work alongside other volunteers and under the supervision of Area Leader. While spots are limited, signing up for a spot on our Youth team can help you gain new skills, get some new experiences, complete high school volunteer hours or just give you the opportunity to indulge your love of music!
